Andrea-Jane Cornell holds an MA in Media Studies, with a specialization in soundscape studies and acoustic ecology. A gleaner of sonorities, her meditative solo works transform and transmit sonic material over radio frequencies and through live performance. The act of listening resides at the core of her practice which seeks to evoke the elusive Sharawadji effect: a fleeting sonic phenomenon arising when the unexpected occurs in a soundscape, creating a rupture or a moment of suspended time and infinite possibility.
Cornell is a member of Le fruit vert, a hymnotic duo founded in 2011, with whom she has released two records: Passiflore (2013: Los discos enfantasmes, 2018 reissue: them there), and Paon Perdu (2017: three:four). She also works alongside film and video artists, composing and mixing soundtracks for Sabrina Ratté (Domestic Landscape, Floralia), Allison Moore (Wunderkammer, Fresque Grotesque), Mike Rollo (Eidolon, Farewell Transmission, PLUME), and Erin Weisgerber (untitled).
"I selected a track that was clusters of punctuated piano notes with a lot of space in between the clusters and processed the track much like Alvin Lucier's I am Sitting in a Room - or one of Eliane Radigue's tape pieces. Essentially playing the sound into a space, and re-recording it, and then playing the recording and re-recording it until all traces of the original were replaced by the resonant tones of the room. Instead of playing it in a room, I used pedals (reverb, tape echo, EQ) building the remix up from this piano track that became swells of rich sound outlined by a bit of feedback. I then removed sections, created some repeating elements, replaced some elements, softened some edges, and added field recordings and some improvised copper "flutes". I took an approach that is grounded in happenstance and listening for what should come next, letting the remix take shape in an organic way."

I just spent two weeks in Sofia, and they were the most memorable in my life. The music by Stefan Christoff seems to catch the atmosphere I felt when being in this wonderful city - I'm glad to have found this magic music by a great piano player. And so I can warmly recommend these pieces to anyone who loves Sofia/Bulgaria and Keith Jarrett, come to think of. Nicolas
